Who is Donna Greenberg?

Recently I was swept up into the Art Jewellery Challenge on facebook. Talk about art jewellery going viral!!
"Big Red Ring" - - coated copper wire, 2008, Erika Leitner workshop.

Basically what happens is that for five days you cut and paste this statement into your facebook status.

Day __ of the #ArtJewelleryChallenge which was started by Donna Greenberg in the hope of capturing a diversity of what is happening around the world of art jewellery’

Each day, for five days you post an example of your work and then nominate another maker. So simple and so effective!!!

“Re-Worn” - sterling silver, winter coat fabric, 2004-06.
Exhibited in "Over Your Head" at Stanley Street Gallery in Sydney, 2014.

The whole experience really made me want to find out who Donna Greenberg is and what was her motivation for this project. I figured it wouldn’t be too difficult to do a little search with this savvy master of art jewellery and social media popping up in no time. Interestingly that was not the case. There were no expose articles or definitive interviews so as yet, it's still a mystery in need of solving!

“Byron Quiver” - sterling silver, silk, rosewood.
Debuted at the Byron Bay Surf Festival 2014.

Regardless of Donna Greenberg's identity, the Art Jewellery Challenge is a great opportunity to summarise your individual practice, share that with the world and really feel like you’re part of an exciting and creative group.

“Brooklyn to Brisbane” - sterling silver, photo transfer on cheesecloth fabric.     “Satin-Star” from the Wish series - sterling silver, gold-fill, satin fabric.
Images are of Brooklyn’s Williamsburg Bridge and Brisbane’s Storey Bridge.      Exhibited in "Cherish" at Artisan in Brisbane, 2006.
Exhibited in "Expeditions ‘06" at Metal Lab in Sydney, 2006.

The Art Jewellery Challenge has also been a timely motivator for me to set up a gallery of past exhibition-based work, which will also showcase the current pieces I’m working on – when they are off the bench!!
