Renovations
Posted March 3, 2014
Had the opportunity to renovate some earrings recently. Always an interesting process that can lead you down all sorts of unexpected paths.
Started out with jade beads in a setting not suited to my customer’s tastes. She wanted the hooks changed to studs, said she didn’t mind a bit of a dangle and pretty much left the rest up to me.
After trying out a few variations, I settled on warm copper tempered with blackened sterling silver to highlight the cool green of the jade. Yum!
Then, inspired by Celtic chain mail patterns I created my own pattern specifically designed to balance and link the beads to the studs. The final outcome references the filigree in the original bead setting – still ornate but a much stronger design. Voila!
All those floating orbs of course reminded me of the night sky and I saw a new addition to my constellation collection.
Hello, Orb Chain Earrings!!
